‘We are all connected; To each other, biologically. To the earth, chemically. To the rest of the universe atomically.’ – Neil DeGrasse Tyson
This project was created during the first Artist Residency of the GSFP with Operaestate and B.Motion Festival.
The most significant moment of the residency, for me, was the Sunday morning physical practice led by Roberto Casarotto on the banks of the Brenta River. The stone I had in my hand at the end, which was not the one I had chosen, took on symbolic significance and in this decision to give it importance, it became an object of value. This reminded me of the connection we develop with objects that belonged to people who are no longer present: my mother’s necklace, my grandmother’s brooch, the gift of a friend who is no longer in my life; our relationship with the object becomes an extention of the relationship with the absent person.
The overlapping voices are those of people I have loved who are no longer there, but also those of strangers who have left me anonymous messages in a voicemail (https://www.papermoustache.com/speaktome/index.html).
